Wise Choice Summer Camp believes that swimming and summers go hand in hand. It is important for campers to refresh in the swimming pool every Tuesday and Thursday during the hot summer days. Safety is our number one priority when it comes to the swimming pool. Camp counselors are required to go into the pool or watch the campers from the edge of the pool. In addition to our camp staff, certified lifeguards are also assigned to oversee our designated area .
Please read the swimming rules and instructions for each camp location listed below.
The FIU summer camp will swim every Tuesday and Thursday at the Tamiami Pool. Upon arrival, all campers will be given a test to verify that they can indeed swim on their own. The test is to swim the entire length of the pool without any assistance. Campers that do not pass the test will be required to wear a life vest for the duration of the pool. No exceptions. Campers will be given all the swim rules by the Tamiami lifeguards.
The UM summer camp will swim every Tuesday and Thursday at the University of Miami outdoor pool located at the University Center building. Upon arrival, campers will be given a test to verify that they can indeed swim on their own. The test is to swim the entire swimming area that we are given, about half of the pool, without any assistance. Campers that do not pass the test, will be taken back to the camp. No exceptions. Unlike the Tamiami pool, the UM pool does not allow vest or any type of swimming aides in the pool. Swimming lessons can be purchased at an additional cost. Swim lessons are provided by the UM lifeguards and are done in small groups of 3-5 campers. Parents will have the option of purchasing swim lessons during the registration process.
